TESTING:
All our breeding adults have had their eyes, hearts, and
patellas cleared prior to breeding. Our dogs have eyes
CERFed yearly. Prior to breeding, both mom and dad are
checked out by our veterinarian.
DURING PREGNANCY:
Our moms continue to be spoiled and are monitored closely.
At around 4 weeks along, mom has an ultrasound to check
on the development of her puppies. Before delivery, mom
has an x-ray to check on the number of puppies and their
positions, to assist with delivery.
PRIOR TO DELIVERY:
Mom's food intake is monitored and she is switched to a
well-balanced puppy food with human food. She is
introduced to her "new area" where she will be raising her
puppies. This area is complete with bumper pads, baby
quilts, and a baby monitor, so human mom can be close at
hand at all times.
PUPPIES:
Puppies stay with mom while nursing, until around 5-6
weeks of age. During that time and afterwards, they are
handled, loved, and played with by both mom and their
human family. After their first set of shots, they go on short
trips to socialize them to places like the bank and library.
